It was July 1982: Peter Maffay was supposed to appear at the Müngersdorfer Stadium in Cologne as the opening act for the legendary Rolling Stones. Support bands are usually there to get the crowd going. But in the case of Peter Maffay, it really backfired.

Around 50,000 fans were waiting for the Rolling Stones that day. But when Peter Maffay entered the stage with his band, something happened that he will never forget: tomatoes and eggs were thrown at him! In the Playboy podcast “After Hours” he said:

What a bad feeling that must have been. Peter Maffay was probably the most successful musician in the country at that time. Musically he also fit in with the Rolling Stones, but no one expected such a reaction. “I was nervous, became stubborn and angry.
