Péter Szijjártó to Fox News: Donald Trump’s re-election is the only hope

by time news

“We believe that the American presidential election may actually be the one that can change everything, if Trump wins,” underlined the Hungarian minister, referring in particular to the war in Ukraine. “Knowing Trump, I think it’s entirely possible, even entirely likely, that he could end this conflict with two phone calls,” he said.

“No one else can do this,” stated Péter Szijjártó. “I think President Trump is the only hope, and our full hope is in President Trump to do that,” he added.

When the minister was asked whether this could be interpreted as a preference for a second Trump presidency, Péter Szijjártó replied that “we are not Americans, so we cannot say that we prefer this or that”.

“What we can definitely say is: politics is based on experience, and we have clear experience of President Trump’s tenure, and we also have clear experience of the Democrats’ tenure,” the minister pointed out.

Péter Szijjártó emphasized that from the point of view of American-Hungarian relations and the global security situation, it is obvious that American-Hungarian relations were at their peak during Trump’s presidency; the best possible.

“Everything was under control during Trump’s presidency,” emphasized the Hungarian minister. “Since Trump left office, the whole global security situation has started to deteriorate, I mean, these are the experiences,” he added.

“If we start from our experience, then we can say that yes, from the point of view of the American-Hungarian relationship, I believe that President Trump can bring another boost, freshness, and dynamism to this relationship, and I think that if President Trump is re-elected, the world has a good chance to to become a more peaceful place again compared to the current situation,” he said.

Péter Szijjártó rejected criticism of Hungarian peace efforts. “It was clearly pro-war politicians who criticized us, the prime minister and the peace mission,” he said.

“They simply don’t take kindly to the fact that there is a country, a government, a prime minister in Europe who strikes a direct tone, who speaks honestly and is not a slave to the liberal mainstream,” underlined the minister. “Therefore, it is extremely unpleasant and inconvenient for them that we are there, acting, speaking and taking action,” he added.

Péter Szijjártó rejected the idea of Ukraine joining NATO, saying that “Ukraine’s admission to NATO would make us completely vulnerable from a security point of view, because it would mean that NATO could easily be dragged into a war against Russia at any time, and this is something that we don’t want it”.

“Everyone knows that any direct confrontation between NATO and Russia would immediately lead to the outbreak of the Third World War, and we joined NATO to increase our security, not to become vulnerable,” the minister pointed out.
