The parents of the student they want harshest sentence – will be a sign to anyone who driving drunk
Petar Todorov, who hit 14-year-old Philip on a pedestrian path in Sofia at high speed and after consuming alcohol, suffered deeply from what happened. This is what his lawyer Kapka Gerginova said after the injunction hearing in the Sofia City Court. The case was postponed until May 23 due to an official commitment before the District Court in Stara Zagora of the defender of the family of Philip Natsko Doychev.
The relatives of the dead boy still cannot accept that
the accused in the death of their child is under house arrest
In February, they protested after it became clear that the Sofia City Court had sent 37-year-old Petar home, changing his detention order. Then the blackened mother, Nikolina Petkova, was shocked by the news and explained that she found out about the court’s ruling from her lawyer.
Now Nikolina does not believe the words of the lawyer. Gerginova, that her client is suffering because of what happened. Before “24 hours”, Petkova explained that she did not receive condolences from Petar, although he had the opportunity to express them to her. Even in the courtroom, the man did not look at the boy’s relatives. They heard from his lawyer: I’m sorry, this is a tragedy for both families. Petar Todorov remained speechless.
To this day, neither he nor his relatives have made any attempt to contact me to talk – said Philip’s mother Nikolina. – Apparently he doesn’t want to. His lawyer is speaking on his behalf, and I wonder if he has any remorse at all for killing Philip in such a way. Perhaps the regret is only for one thing – that he will lie in prison and there will be a sentence.
We want Peter to get the roughest because he deserves it. This will be a sign to all drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs that they will not go unpunished. After the meeting we will release white doves – a symbol of the purity and youth that was taken from Philip with his deathadded Petkova.
According to Adv. Kapka Gerginova had “vices” in the case: But everything will be clarified. The legal qualification is not correct in my opinion – that is, it must be unintentional, not intentional. This person is in shock because this is his first contact with the court. He suffers deeply for what happened. He tells you through me because I have this mandate. Everyone deserves justice, this also applies to defendants. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Not just us, but everyone.
Before the start of the injunction case, protesters, including from the “Angels on the Road” association, gathered in front of the Courthouse with posters with the inscriptions: “Life imprisonment for road murders!!!”, “Bulgaria has no children to kill”, “How long will the killers will our children be free?!?”.
Before entering the building, Philip Nikolina’s mother put a poster on the fence that read: “Philip wanted to live!”,
“High speed, alcohol, drugs = road kill!”
Petar Todorov is currently accused of causing death after intentionally violating traffic rules. With a speed limit of 30 km/h, he was traveling at 88 km/h in urban conditions in the center of Sofia. He was driving his car with a blood alcohol level of 2.2. Approaching the intersection of “Gurko” and “Shishman” streets, he did not stop on the pedestrian path, hit the boy and killed him. At the time of the accident, a woman and a small child were riding in Todorov’s car.
