After several days of intense negotiations, the Government and representatives of the rank and file of freight transporters reached an agreement to lift the truckers’ strike that had been affecting the country’s mobility. President Gustavo Petro celebrated the outcome of the dialogue, stating that a solution was reached more quickly than expected.
«We have resolved the truckers’ strike faster than they thought and in the best way possible. “Congratulations to the small truck drivers who knew how to put their agenda of vindication as a priority and not foreign agendas. We will comply. Congratulations to the citizens who had the patience and did not resort to confrontations within the people themselves. Congratulations to the public force that acted with democratic prudence,” said the president after the agreement reached in the early hours of this Friday.
The signed agreement establishes an increase of $800 in the cost of diesel fuel for the remainder of the year, distributed in two increments.: $400 will be applied after the modification of resolution 40350 of 2024 and the other $400 on December 1.

In addition to the adjustment in fuel prices, it was agreed to create working groups that will allow for the structural adjustments that the freight transport sector needs to be addressed. These groups will focus on improving the working and living conditions of transporters, a key commitment by the Government.
For her part, the Minister of Transport, María Constanza García Alicastro, highlighted the importance of dialogue with transporters to reach this understanding and stressed that efforts will be maintained to structurally transform this important sector of the economy.
This agreement puts an end to days of uncertainty and tension, restoring calm to the country and allowing the transport sector to resume its normal activities.
