Amid concerns over the cancellation of flights at different airports in the country, President Gustavo Petro has requested an investigation to determine the real causes of these incidents.
According to the president, it is unacceptable that these cancellations are attributed to the Reficar blackout that occurred on August 16.a justification that he considers unjustified and abusive.
“I have asked the Civil Aeronautics to investigate the unjustified flight cancellations. It has been abusive to report that flight cancellations are related to the Reficar blackout on August 16,” said Petro, stressing the need for transparency in the management of air transport.
For his part, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, has announced the immediate start of a series of inspections of fuel retailers, in an effort to verify their inventories and ensure that there are no undue fluctuations in supply during the current contingency. “Today we began inspections of each of the distributors to verify their inventories. We have requested the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce to take action to verify possible fluctuations and to verify the market conditions that have occurred during this contingency,” said Camacho.

In parallel, the Minister of Transport, María Constanza García, reported that the Government has intensified the monitoring at the country’s airports, ensuring that to date there have been no reported flight cancellations directly related to fuel supply problems. “Until yesterday we had no reports of operations cancelled for reasons related to this fuel situation; today we are monitoring the 1,700 operations that are carried out daily in the country, airport by airport,” explained García.
In response to the situation, the Ministry of Transport has outlined a series of actions to ensure the continuity and safety of air operations. These include:
Constant monitoring of fuel supply and airport operations, in coordination with Aerocivil.
Collaboration with Ecopetrol and the Ministry of Mines and Energy to ensure adequate supply for normal aviation operations.
Monitoring to avoid harmful decisions by airlines and airports that may affect users.
Support from the Superintendency of Transportation in surveillance and control actions for the benefit of users.
Finally, Petro emphasized that there is no justification for a gasoline shortage in the market, and that an investigation will be carried out into why some distributors, such as Terpel, have not delivered fuel orders to airlines in an appropriate manner. “What has happened in recent days with airplane gasoline in some airports served by Terpel has no relation to the Reficar blackout on August 16.
