President Gustavo Petro has presented a nine-point proposal for the ‘National Agreement’, a preliminary step before the convening of a National Constituent Assembly.
In an effort to ensure that his social reforms are considered and approved by Congress, Petro stressed the importance of including these points in the national debate. He underlined the primacy of constituent power and the need for a national agreement on key issues. The nine points proposed by the president are:
Immediate guarantee of the universal right to education, health and pensions.
New territorial planning.
Economic and social development of excluded territories.
Agrarian reform.
Adaptation to the climate crisis.
Justice reform.
Political reform.
Pact for a productive economy.
Judicial truth and social forgiveness for a definitive peace.
