The Foreign Relations Commission, convened by the Government of Gustavo Petro, met this Wednesday at the San Carlos Palace, Bogotá, to evaluate the serious crisis that Venezuela is going through under the regime of Nicolás Maduro and its possible repercussions in Colombia.

This meeting took place in a climate of intense discussion and analysis, where various topics of international relevance were addressed.

Although it was announced that a new session of the Commission will be held next week, this time with the participation of President Gustavo Petro, criticism arose regarding the way the president has handled the Venezuelan situation. Despite this, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo described the session as “very dynamic” and highlighted the willingness of the members of the Commission to address not only the issue of Venezuela, but also issues related to Nicaragua, the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Murillo emphasized the importance of their presence in this space for dialogue: “We invite all members of the Commission, especially the former presidents who did not attend, to participate, since this is the most important scenario for the State’s approach, where those who think differently meet.”

For her part, Senator Paola Holguín, member of the Foreign Relations Advisory Committee, anticipated that the Democratic Center will reiterate its request to the Colombian government to recognize Edmundo González as the legitimate winner of the presidential elections in Venezuela, a topic that will surely be the subject of debate in the next session.
