Petrobras (BVMF:) announced on Thursday night, the 6th, a new design for the company’s organization chart, approved by the executive board. Among the changes is the creation of the Board of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy.

In addition, there are changes in the names and attributions of the other boards of the company. At least one of them, Innovation and Digital Transformation, will be extinguished and the functions will be transferred to two others to keep the number of boards at eight and not lead to an increase in costs, informed Petrobras.

The change, which Petrobras called an “organizational adjustment”, will still be submitted to the company’s Board of Directors for approval.

For the new Board of Energy Transition and Renewables, the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, formally appointed Maurício Tolmasquim, a professor at Coppe-UFRJ and former president of the Energy Research Company during the Dilma Rousseff government.

In a statement, the company informs that Tolmasquim’s portfolio will coordinate decarbonization activities, climate change, new technologies and sustainability, and will also incorporate the commercial activities of .

Gas was the subject of disputes between the new directors and his move to Tolmasquim’s umbrella attests to the strength of the now executive at the state-owned company and his proximity to Jean Paul Prates.

In Brazil and around the world, natural gas is seen as the fuel for the transition and one of the keys to short-term economic development.

Restructuring and new functions

Other changes in Petrobras’ organizational structure involve the traditional Production Development Board, occupied by Carlos José do Nascimento Travassos, who will accumulate new functions, being renamed the Engineering, Technology and Innovation Board.

The unit will incorporate the Petrobras Research Center, Cenpes, in Rio de Janeiro.

With this, the Directorate of Innovation and Digital Transformation, until then headed by Carlos Augusto Barreto, will be extinguished.

The functions of this board will be distributed between the Travassos board and the area to be headed by Clarice Copetti, who will continue as director, but of Corporate Affairs. This suppression makes room for the new energy transition front and keeps the number of boards at eight.

Copetti previously headed the Institutional Relationship and Sustainability Board, which will be transformed into the so-called Corporate Management Board, also under his command.

The area will manage internal people management, health, environment and safety (SMS) processes and shared services, incorporating the structure of digital transformation and information technology. According to Petrobras, Barreto, whose board disappears, will remain responsible for Digital Transformation matters, but under Copetti.

The current Board of Refining, Gas and Energy, headed by William França da Silva, will be renamed as Board of Industrial Processes and Products, including oil refining derivatives, gas and biocomponents. And the current Commercialization and Logistics Board, occupied by Claudio Romeo Schlosser, is now called the Logistics, Commercialization and Markets Board.

The Financial and Investor Relations Department, occupied by Sergio Caetano Leite, will also be responsible for the Portfolio Management area, which will therefore be key to the future of the company’s divestment plan, which, by all indications, should wane .

The Exploration and Production and Governance and Compliance departments are maintained, the latter occupied by Salvador Dahan until mid-May.

Finally, the executive management of Communication and Brands, Social Responsibility and External Relations will be directly linked to the company’s presidency, reporting directly to Prates.
