Petroecuador began studies for the construction of the SOTE variant and Shushufindi Poliduct – Quito – La Nación 2023

A contract with the Engineering company Montajes y Construcciones del Ecuador SA (Imcoecsa) was signed by the Public Company Petroecuador. It will be for the preparation of pre-feasibility studies for the construction of the definitive variant for the SOTE and Shushufindi – Quito Polyduct, in the area affected by the regressive erosion of the Quijos River, Napo province.

The execution period of this contract is 180 days. According to the schedule, this October 25, 2023, the kick-off meeting was held between the Ecuadorian company Imcoecsa, which will carry out the consulting work, and EP Petroecuador.

The contract, which was awarded through an open selection through the National Public Procurement Service (SERCOP), for a total value of USD 1.8 million includes:

Delivery of a preliminary report. • Initial studies.
Generation of alternatives with conceptual engineering.
Technical, economic, financial, legal and socio-environmental pre-feasibility.
Terms of reference and reference budget for the contracting of basic engineering feasibility studies and definitive detailed engineering studies.

Terms of reference and reference budget for the contracting of the Environmental Impact Study and Environmental Management Plan.

The General Manager(s) of Petroecuador, Reinaldo Armijos, indicated that this contract will allow for a definitive route for the SOTE and Shushufindi – Quito Poliduct. It will eliminate the risk to infrastructure due to the presence of regressive erosion of the Quijos River and its tributaries from 2021, in order to guarantee the transportation of crude oil and clean products.

“This is a responsible decision to protect a strategic asset of the country, against the advance of regressive and lateral erosion of the Quijos River and its tributaries,” said the official.

The prefeasibility study is the initial step for the construction of the final variant and road accesses, both for the SOTE and the Shushufindi-Quito Polyduct, among other works. In addition, the most convenient option among three alternatives will be analyzed in this study, the most suitable route and configuration for the construction and operation of the variants of the SOTE and Polyduct pipelines, including the technical, economic, social and environmental feasibility.
