Oil companies set petrol, diesel and cooking gas cylinder prices based on the prevailing international crude oil prices and the value of the Indian rupee against the dollar. In India, petrol and diesel prices rose by 76 paise per liter on March 22 after 137 days. Since then, petrol and diesel prices have continued to rise.

Consumers are dissatisfied with the resumption of petrol and diesel prices. In Chennai, petrol is being sold at 109 rupees 34 rupees a liter, up 38 paise. Diesel price has been hiked by 38 paise per liter to 99 rupees 42 paise. Oil companies have raised petrol and diesel prices for the 12th time in the last 14 days.
