Petrol tanker truck explodes in Haiti, death toll rises to 75 |

The Prime Minister of Haiti Ariel Henry has described the explosion of a Haiti petrol tanker truck as a national disaster.

Haiti, in the Caribbean, is facing severe shortages of fuel, including petrol and cooking gas.

Meanwhile, a tanker truck carrying petrol crashed in the northern city of Cape Hayden. When the locals saw the petrol coming out of it, they poured it into containers.

Then the tanker truck exploded due to an unexpected fire. Of these, 54 died in the blaze. Initial reports said more than 100 people were injured.

This accident was a national disaster. Prime Minister Ariel Henry has announced a three-day nationwide mourning period to pay tribute to the dead.

Cape Hayden Deputy Mayor Patrick Almonar said the death toll from the crash could rise further.

Meanwhile, a Haiti petrol tanker exploded, injuring several people who were receiving treatment. The death toll has risen to 75. Rescuers said 20 buildings were damaged in the area.
