The information circulates on the Net but dates back to two months ago: the packages have been distributed in the United States and Puerto Rico from December 2019 to today

The not new news: Pfizer called back (in March) five batches of Accupril (Quinapril HCl), a drug used in the treatment of hypertension and heart failure, for thepresence of nitrosamines above the safe level. These are substances present in water and in various foods, potentially carcinogenic if taken in doses higher than the maximum recommended daily amount and for a long period of time. The withdrawn lots have been distributed in the United States and Puerto Rico from December 2019 to today: therefore, the news does not concern Italy.

The lots withdrawn

Accupril has been in use for over 30 years and Pfizer has indicated that it has no knowledge of any adverse events related to the recall of batches with impurities. The company believes that there is no immediate risk to patients taking the medicine, but the recommendation is to consult your doctor to understand how to proceed with the therapy or identify possible alternatives. The numbers of the lots withdrawn are listed on the website of the Food and drug administration (see the numbers of the lots withdrawn). Wholesalers and distributors who received the affected batches were asked to immediately quarantine the product and notify customers who purchased the impure drug to return it.
