The Attorney General’s Office recommended this Wednesday (18) to the Federal Supreme Court that it forward to the Federal Police a request presented by parliamentarians, aiming to investigate the virtual crowdfunding that raised R$ 17.2 million for former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).
The parliamentarians’ request raises the question about the nature of the donations, as they claim that the majority of the crowdfunding donors are under investigation due to undemocratic acts on January 8th.
Coaf (Financial Activities Control Council) sent a report to CPMI on Coup Acts, in which it indicated that Bolsonaro raised the amount through transactions via PIX, during the period from January to July this year, with movements classified as “atypical “.
The suspicion is that these movements may be related to a fundraising campaign aimed at paying Bolsonaro’s legal fines. Over this period, almost 770 thousand deposits via PIX, totaling R$17.2 million, were made, with R$17 million of this amount being invested in fixed income.
The PGR argues that the request should be investigated by the Federal Police in order to verify possible connections with investigations into digital militias and also to determine whether the donations were made by individuals under investigation.
On the other hand, Jair Bolsonaro’s defense claims that the donations are legal and originate from supporters of the former president. The fundraising campaign was announced in June, with the reserve captain’s PIX key being widely publicized by parliamentarians and former government members.
It is worth mentioning that Bolsonaro was facing a legal situation in which more than R$370,000 was blocked by the São Paulo Court due to non-payment of fines related to not wearing a mask at events.
The former president declared that he had already received enough donations to pay off the fines and that the details would be released soon.

“President Jair Bolsonaro’s defense became aware, today, of the leak of his client’s banking information, contained in a report issued by the Financial Activities Control Council.
The widespread publication in the press of such information constitutes an unusual, unacceptable and criminal violation of banking secrecy, a species of which the right to privacy is a genus, protected by the Federal Constitution in the chapter on individual citizen guarantees.
So that frivolous and unfounded suspicions are not raised about the origin of the amounts disclosed, the defense informs that they come from thousands of donations made via Pix by its supporters, and therefore have an absolutely lawful origin.
Finally, the defense also informs that in the coming days it will take the appropriate criminal measures to determine who was responsible for the disclosure of such information.”
