Watan al-Youm: Prof. Dr. Muhammad al-Tanani, Dean of the Faculties of Pharmacy and Allied Medical Sciences at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, said that the university has introduced a specialization in pharmaceutical biotechnology for a bachelor’s degree, which has been specially accredited to begin admission at the beginning of the next academic year.
Dr. Al-Tanani added, in an interview with Roya TV channel (Dunya Ya Dunya program), that Al-Ahliyya Amman University has taken important measures in the field of pharmaceutical industries, including the opening of this specialization.
He explained the large investments in the diagnostic infrastructure through the Pharmaceutical and Diagnostic Research Center at the highest level (similar to England and perhaps better), and an (animal house) was set up with the latest technology as if it was a hospital, as it includes the latest devices that can (without killing the animal) through experiments follow up on the action of the drug through modern devices.
The university has also developed and updated curricula to match the requirements of the times and scientific progress.
Dr. Al-Tanani said: Pharmaceutical biotechnologies are treated with protein, cells, serums, and genetic antigens, where a gene can be closed and another gene opened, and it is a continuous manufacturing for drug production and quality, and artificial intelligence is used in it, as it is possible to quickly detect the quality of the drug, its effectiveness, and what will happen through experiments. clinical and its impact.
This is unlike the previous one, where the process of discovering a specific drug takes a long time, years, and a very high cost, with the possibility of drug failure .. after test tube experiments, experiment on animals, and then clinical trials. Also, the use of chemical medicine may cure one condition and infect another in the body.. which is Which necessitated the development of a treatment through technology that is directed against the disease directly and reaches the goal… as in pharmaceutical biotechnologies that depend on producing drugs through cells, serums and genes… and this is the promising future in this regard..
He concluded by saying: Pharmaceutical biotechnology has put Jordan on the global map with this issue, and God willing, we will discover new medicines from Jordan, God willing, through these technologies.
