Tragic Loss for the Philadelphia Police Department
PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Police Department is mourning the loss of two of its dedicated officers, Officer Lynneice Hill and Officer Kevin Whetstone, who both passed away on Friday under separate circumstances.
Officer Lynneice Hill, 44, of the 3rd Police District, died on Friday night after an apparent medical emergency. Known as “superwoman” to her husband, Officer Dennis Smith, Hill was described as someone who would do anything for anybody. She was deeply religious and active in the youth program at her church. Hill leaves behind two sons, a daughter, and three grandchildren.
On the same day, Officer Kevin Whetstone, 55, of the 39th Police District, passed away in his home. Whetstone suffered a devastating heart attack three weeks prior and was on hospice care before he passed. Whetstone was known for his ability to connect with people and was beloved by his colleagues. He leaves behind his wife, Stephanie Whetstone, and a 3-year-old daughter.
These losses mark a somber day for the Philadelphia Police Department, with Hill and Whetstone having a combined 39 years of service. Both officers were dedicated to their community and were admired by their colleagues.
The exact cause of Hill’s passing is still under investigation, as autopsy results have not yet been released. It has been reported that she was working an overtime assignment at the time and showed no signs of distress earlier in the day.
Officer Hill was also known for her charitable work, particularly in helping to feed people with cancer. She was described as a selfless woman with a wonderful spirit, dedicated to making her community a better place.
Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 5 President John McNesby released statements mourning the loss of both officers. He described Hill as a dedicated officer who served her community with humility, distinction, and integrity. He also praised Whetstone for his professionalism and integrity in serving the city.
Dennis Smith, Officer Hill’s husband and also a police officer, expressed his devastation at her sudden passing. He described his wife as someone with a bright smile that could light up a room, and someone who touched the lives of many.
The Philadelphia Police Department and the community as a whole are mourning the loss of these two dedicated officers. As the investigation into Hill’s passing continues, the department will continue to honor the memories of both Officer Lynneice Hill and Officer Kevin Whetstone.
