Philips is entering the competitive gaming projector market with the release of two new models – the GamePix 900 and GamePix 800 Smart – designed to appeal to both dedicated gamers and home entertainment enthusiasts across Australia and New Zealand. The projectors promise to deliver immersive visuals, low latency, and smart features, positioning Philips as a contender in a rapidly evolving segment.
Catering to Diverse Entertainment Needs
The newly released GamePix series is engineered to bridge the gap between high-performance gaming and versatile home entertainment. Both projectors prioritize high refresh rates, minimal input lag, and expansive projected images, while also incorporating features geared towards a broader range of multimedia experiences.
GamePix 900: 4K Resolution and Esports Focus
The GamePix 900 is positioned as the premium option, boasting 4K resolution at 60Hz and support for full HD gaming at refresh rates of 240Hz or 120Hz. Recognizing the diverse needs of gamers, the projector includes three distinct presets: Action Gaming, optimized for enhancing visibility in dark, competitive titles; Adventure Gaming, designed to maximize contrast and HDR in story-driven experiences; and Sports Gaming, which prioritizes vibrant colors for racing and sports genres.
Portability is a key feature of the GamePix 900, weighing in at just 2kg and including a built-in speaker for standalone operation. Utilizing Texas Instruments DLP technology with a 0.47-inch DMD chip and an advanced LED light source rated for up to 30,000 hours, the projector aims to minimize maintenance. It outputs 1000 ANSI lumens of brightness, suitable for use in ambient light, and covers 95% of the Rec. 709 color space. Connectivity is ensured through HDMI 2.0 ports, supporting full 4K resolution at 60Hz.
A standout performance metric is the projector’s 6 millisecond input lag in 240Hz mode, intended to provide a near-instantaneous response crucial for competitive gaming. The device also supports the HDR10 standard and can project images up to 120 inches diagonally.
GamePix 800 Smart: Brightness and Integrated Streaming
The GamePix 800 Smart model targets users who prioritize brightness and convenience. Achieving 2500 ANSI lumens through its long-lasting LED light source (also rated for 30,000 hours), this projector is designed for well-lit environments. It delivers full HD resolution at up to 120Hz, with an input lag of 8ms at 120Hz. Color accuracy is maintained with 98% coverage of the Rec.709 color space, across a screen size range of 70 to 150 inches.
A key differentiator for the GamePix 800 Smart is its integrated Google TV dongle, providing seamless access to a wide array of streaming services, applications, and live content. Weighing 2.7kg, the projector offers reasonable portability for use in various settings, including LAN events. It features dual HDMI ports and a five-watt built-in speaker.
Philips Envisions a Unified Entertainment Experience
“The GamePix series marks an exciting new chapter for Philips as we expand into a product family designed to unite two worlds,” stated a company release. “It’s the frontier where passionate gamers and movie lovers meet, delivering the speed, responsiveness, and immersion gamers demand, along with the rich visuals and cinematic quality that film fans crave. With GamePix, we’re offering one all-in-one solution for everyone who wants to play more, watch more, and live their entertainment to the fullest.”
The launch of the GamePix 900 and GamePix 800 Smart represents Philips’ commitment to expanding its presence in the gaming projector market, aiming to establish a new benchmark for brightness and integrated smart features.
