Phosphorous in the icy ocean of Saturn’s moon

by time news

Scientists discovered large amounts of phosphorous in the icy ocean of Saturn’s moon Enceladus, and calculations indicated that the waters of Saturn’s moon contain large amounts of phosphorous compounds in the form of different salts of phosphoric acid, comparable in terms of concentration with their counterparts in Earth’s oceans.

Planetary scientists calculated the characteristics of the sub-icy ocean of Enceladus, based on data sent by the American Cassini probe, and came to the conclusion that many phosphorous compounds are present in this extraterrestrial water basin.

The researchers said in an article published in the scientific astronomical journal “PNAS” that this matter greatly increases the chances of the existence of life inside this moon of Saturn.
