The opening ceremony of the photo exhibition “Preservation of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan: Austria’s contribution” took place at the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Vienna.

As Day.Az reports with reference to AZERTAC, the event, organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Austria with the support of the State Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Work with Diaspora, was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps in Vienna, ambassadors, employees of international organizations, country officials, representatives of the local public , our compatriots living in Austria.

The head of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center, Leyla Gasimova, who opened the event, expressed gratitude to Austrian companies that make a great contribution to the preservation of cultural and historical monuments in various regions of Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Austria Rovshan Sadigbeyli noted that preserving the rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan has always been a priority of the Azerbaijani government. He brought to attention that the complete restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan gave impetus to the restoration of the Karabakh region, and this became a national mission.

He expressed satisfaction with the opening of a photo exhibition reflecting the contribution of Austrian architects to the restoration and conservation of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Icherisheher, the Maiden Tower and other cultural monuments, as well as the cultural and religious heritage of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

Informing about the global call “Peace for Culture” launched by the UN Alliance of Civilizations in 2021, he emphasized that the restoration and preservation of cultural heritage will contribute to ensuring sustainable peace.

Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora Elshad Aliyev expressed gratitude to Austrian companies participating in construction and restoration work in the Karabakh region after the complete liberation of Azerbaijani territories from almost 30 years of occupation.

Representatives of Austrian companies that have been operating in Azerbaijan for many years, Manfred Wehdorn, Erich Pummer and Roman Brugger, who made presentations, informed the event participants in detail about the work they had done.

Manfred Wehdorn noted the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Austria. He informed about the restoration of the rich cultural heritage of our country, in particular the Juma mosque in Agdam, the Ashagi Govhar Agha and Yukhari Govhar Agha mosques in Shusha. Erich Pummer spoke in detail about the restoration of the Maiden Tower, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Icherisheher, as well as the Mohammed Mosque, Bailar Mosque, and the Opera and Ballet Theater included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. And Roman Brugger provided information about the restoration of the Juma mosque in Agdam.

Associate Professor at the University of Giessen (Germany), Turkic scholar Michael Reinhard Hess noted the rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. He stated that acts of vandalism in the city of Shusha during the occupation were aimed at completely erasing the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan from the face of the earth.

The scientist presented his book “The Heritage of Shushi. History and path of development of the cultural capital of Azerbaijan” in English.

The artistic part of the event featured a performance by the mugham group “Karabakh” under the direction of the famous khanende, people’s artist Mansum Ibragimov.
