As is often the case, images of famous personalities are used by cybercriminals to steal data, infect your devices or even take money from you. Freshly elected Miss France 2024, it is Ève Gilles who has already seen her image used in fraudulent advertisements broadcast on Facebook and Instagram for several days, with the aim of defrauding Internet users who are not vigilant enough.

Spotted by Numeramathese scams present on Meta’s social networks seek to convince users to use a cryptocurrency trading site to extract their money by leading them to false press articles with very catchy titles.

An example of a scam spotted by the Numerama site.

The IT and digital news site reports in particular scams indicating that broadcasts by Yann Barthès, Anne-Claire Coudray and Léa Salamé had to be “interrupted by the authorities”, but that it was “ already too late, because Ève Gilles had already told everything.”

Several other versions of scams according to which Miss France 2024 said “shut up” or “how dare you” to the presenters exist on social networks. The goal ? Make Internet users click and redirect them to a site that promotes banking trading via cryptocurrency by pretending to be recognized news media like Libération or Le Monde.

These recognized fake media sites claim that Ève Gilles has discovered a miracle investment platform with high returns thanks to cryptocurrencies, accompanied by a link to this fraudulent trading site created to steal the banking data of its visitors.

Numerama claims that these advertisements with Miss France 2024 have been viewed more than 100,000 times for some of them and that the majority have passed under Meta’s radar. However, the American giant claims that content that attempts to deceive in order to obtain money is systematically deleted.

According to our colleagues, these disguised advertisements are still active on social networks this Wednesday and even use the image of other stars, such as Virginie Efira.
