The film was dark for Moushumi. Omar Sani claimed that Moushumi had to be criticized several times due to this film during the rule of Awami League government. Mousumi’s husband opened up about the incident for the first time after the fall of Hasina’s government.
On Tuesday (September 17) afternoon, a press conference was held at the Producers and Distributors Association of FDC demanding reform of the newly formed Censor Board. After the picture went viral, people of Awami League government decided to damage his business. Omar Sani said, ‘Benzir was the head of RAB then. When he met in Narayanganj one day he said that they have instructions whether the film is controversial. We will be in a bad situation. Then I became afraid for my family. Since then, they (Awami League government) have been doing extraordinary damage to my family and business. Not only I, but the people close to me also know how much I was hurt.’
Explaining the issue of having pictures of artists with political leaders, Omar Sani said, ‘I want to say clearly, where the state will stay, the citizens are bound to stay there. Anyone can have pictures with artists. There may also be pictures with a thief or with a brothel girl. But yes, it sought true seasonal nomination (reserved women seat, 2018 election). I did not come to state why I wanted it. The superior knows this well. He left America for a time because he would not get involved in seasonal politics. It’s still there.’
Omar Sani referred to the few leaders of FDC artistes’ association as ‘kulangars’ and said, ‘Because of those kulangars, I came to the election for the first time and saw what they did to Shakib. Shakib sued. Because of these Kulangars, Shakib could not advance that case. Many of those who influenced these are imprisoned. When Moushumi elected the association, there are many of them now, who harmed him from behind.’
Demanding to give Ekushey Padak to elite performers, Omar Sani said, ‘Legends like Shabnam Madam, Shabana Madam, Babita Madam are not being properly evaluated. They have given their entire lives to this field. The state should honor them with Ekushey Padak awards.’
