The Port of Long Beach and International Transportation Service, LLC, have completed an upgrade project that allows the ITS terminal to improve its efficiency and accommodate larger container ships.

“With the opening of the G236 dock extension at ITS, we are able to offer shipping companies new berthing capabilities for vessels carrying up to 16,000 TEU,” said ITS CEO Kim Holtermand.

“Over the next five months, we will take delivery of five new ship-to-shore and five rubber-tyred gantry cranes, furthering our commitment to the future of this gateway, the success of this new infrastructure and the continued pursuit of operational improvements for our clients”.

The organization added 80.4 feet of new pier to extend Berth G236, constructed new rock breakwaters and improved mooring infrastructure at Berths G232 and G236. Onshore improvements included the addition of 2 acres to increase the terminal’s storage capacity; strengthen dockside infrastructure to support new, larger ship-to-shore cranes with longer reach; equipping the dock so that the ships at the dock run on shore-based electrical power; install drainage, lighting, fencing and signage systems; and paint the new area.
