The allegations were first aired in Harry and Meghan’s sit-down with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, but with no names of the alleged speakers given.
The UK media has been dancing around the names, with the BBC’s flagship radio news program not identifying them in the first hour but then naming them in the second. Morgan, on his TalkTV show, named the two royals as King Charles and Kate Middleton, stating that he felt the situation was becoming farcical and that he believed Scobie to be a liar.
In a piece for the Times, Morgan expressed his belief that Dutch people should not be privy to significant information about the royal family while British people are prevented from knowing it. He also called for full transparency on the alleged statements made by the royals, stating that it has caused enough damage and needs to be addressed to prevent further division and racial tension.
Scobie has denied including the names in any version of the manuscript he submitted for publication, and the Dutch translator at the center of the scandal has been robustly defended by her publisher.
The UK media is now calling on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to speak out publicly against the contents of the book, while King Charles’ team is expected to discuss the next steps to respond to the damaging story for the British royal family.
