Residents in the area of Megali Chora in Agrinio are upset by the continuous raids of “copper hunters” on churches, as within a few days pilgrims ransacked two chapels!
As it became known, the last invasion took place on Shrove Sunday in the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, where the perpetrators caused extensive damage and grabbed everything metal there was, while they did not fail to break into the bank and take the little money it had inside . In fact, according to the residents, the pilgrims brazenly destroyed the window to get inside in order to carry out their plan.
Also, a few days ago, in the same area, in all probability the same pilgrims had broken into the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin and had stolen the brass manuals and the microphone installation from inside, causing damages of thousands of euros.
After the latest shameful incidents, the residents declare that they are in despair, protesting the situation, which is constantly worsening, at the same time appealing to every competent Authority to put an end to the phenomenon. Finally, it is recalled that, in addition to the churches and residences of the area, the graves of the cemeteries have also been targeted, as the desecration and removal of metal objects are a daily occurrence.
