Pilot Refuses to Fly Plane | Working hours are over; Pilot refuses to fly; Passengers protesting

by time news
There are not many people who like to work again after working hours. Most of us have a laid back attitude when it comes to painting a picture about ourselves. But what if you ever have to work overtime? There are those who do not hesitate to say ‘no’ to any job assigned after duty hours. Such incidents are not uncommon in the corporate world, but what if a pilot responsible for getting hundreds of passengers to their destination did so?

A pilot of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) refused to take the plane to its destination carrying passengers as his shift ended. The incident took place on Sunday. He refused when asked by authorities to fly from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. Flight PK-9754 was scheduled to fly from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to Islamabad, but the flight had to make an emergency landing due to inclement weather, The Tribune reported.

Dramatic events unfold as the plane prepares to take off again after landing in Dammam due to bad weather. The captain refused to fly from Dammam to Islamabad, saying his duty was over. His reluctance and the ensuing delay provoked the restless passengers. They protested by refusing to de-board or change aircraft. Dammam airport officials had to call security officials to bring the situation under control.

A spokesman for Pakistan International Airlines told The Tribune that it was important for a pilot to get proper rest between duties to ensure the safety of the flight and that arrangements had been made for that. An airline spokesman had assured passengers that the flight would arrive in Islamabad at 11 pm on the same day (Sunday). He also said that hotel facilities have been set up at Dammam Airport for passengers.

The incident comes amid plans by Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan’s national carrier, to expand flights to Saudi Arabia. The PIA announced in November that it was expanding its flights to Saudi Arabia.
