In Colombia, urban motorcycle races are very popular events that attract thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts and racing fans. These competitions are usually held on the streets of citieswhere certain stages are closed to allow drivers to compete at high speeds in an urban environment.
The so-called ‘Motovelocidad’ tours different cities and towns to give thousands of fans the opportunity to compete who, otherwise, would not be able to enjoy their great passion as they do not have permanent speed circuits in a nearby radius.
One of the best known events in Colombia is the “Super Biker”, a competition that is held in the city of Bogotá. This race brings together both national and international runners in an urban circuit specially designed for the occasion that has different categories.
As they are narrow urban circuits and with almost non-existent safety for the pilots, thehe motorcycles used in most races are low displacement, 125, 150 or 200 ccalways two-stroke and tuned by skilled mechanics who are capable of extracting every last horsepower.
If to the danger that an event of this type already entails we add an audience that, on occasions, does not care about their own safety, we have situations like the ones in this video. During the course of one of these races held in Tolima, one of the participants reaches an excessive speed at a 90º right turn, and when he tries to brake his motorcycle, he loses control of it.
Part of the public gathered in that curve had previously jumped over the metal fence and had gotten inside the track, so the result was catastrophic: motorcycle and pilot hit several spectators at high speed leaving several injuredincluding the crashed pilot himself.
Luckily the incident was resolved with some broken bones and several minor hospitalized, and above all with a valuable lesson: within the precarious security offered by this type of event, it is always best to stay healthy and not risk more than necessary, especially if we are part of the public.
