Pinarayi Vijayan | CM in Kannur today as protests continue; Police provided heavy security

Kannur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will attend a public function in Kannur today amid protests by opposition youth organizations. The Chief Minister, who arrived in the district last night, will attend the inaugural function of the Institute of Public Policy and Leadership College at 10.30 am. In view of the protests that started after the revelation of Swapna Suresh, heavy security will be provided for the Chief Minister even today.

Pinarayi Vijayan, who reached Kannur last night, had shifted to Kannur Guest House instead of staying at home. The decision was made to stay at his own house in Pinarayi but the decision was taken at the request of the police. He was shifted to Kannur Guest House after being informed by the police about the security situation.

On his way back to Kannur from Kozhikode, Youth Congress workers staged a black flag protest against the Chief Minister in Vadakara yesterday. Ten activists were taken into police custody. Earlier, protesters had raised black flags against the Chief Minister at various places in Kozhikode under heavy security. Youth Congress and Yuva Morcha activists displayed black flags at Karambaram. Youth League activists protested at Eranjipalam. Protesters were taken into custody in many places.

The first event of the CM’s program in Kozhikode was the book release held at 3.30 pm yesterday at the Tripleton Hotel. KSU and Youth Congress activists came out in protest at the very first stage. The protesters then marched to the venue where the women and children’s block of the district co – operative hospital was inaugurated at 4 p.m. Kozhikode: Police have taken into custody two Youth Congress activists who had come to show the black flag to the Chief Minister at Karaparambil, Kozhikode. Young motorist, who came to the venue to protest near the Co-operative Hospital, was taken into custody. They were taken into custody near the venue of the hospital. In the morning, there were heavy protests in Malappuram district against the Chief Minister, including the black flag protest. In Thavanur, a clash broke out between police and Youth Congress activists outside the venue where the Chief Minister was speaking.

Police intelligence has warned of possible protests and violence in areas where the CM is visiting. In the district with the Chief Minister, the respective police chiefs will assess the security arrangements. In addition to the permanent security guards accompanying the Chief Minister, additional commandos have been specially deployed.
