Pirna: Caritas collects satchel donations
The association wants to help needy children to start school again this year. The patron of the campaign is a prominent winter sports enthusiast.

The Caritas advisory services in Dresden and Pirna/district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains are again this year involved in the fundraising campaign “Satchels for school beginners”. With the project, the association wants to support families who – for whatever reason – do not find it easy to get their children a proper school bag. According to Caritas, however, it is immensely important that every child has an intact satchel when they start school. The donated materials will be distributed to the respective families before the start of school.
In addition to new and well-preserved school satchels and backpacks, the Caritas association also collects sports bags, pencil cases, lunch boxes and water bottles. These donations can now be handed over to the Caritas advisory services in the house at Dr.-Wilhelm-Külz-Straße 1a in Pirna. If you want, you can also support the campaign with a monetary donation.

Caritas first initiated the fundraising campaign in 2018 under the motto “Right start – your own satchel makes school beginners happy” in order to support the children of low-income families. The satchels and accessories are intended for children from migrant and asylum seeker families as well as from socially disadvantaged families. Contacts are made with them via the Caritas advice centers in the district, the advisors keep an eye on the families and know who could use additional help.
Right from the start, Caritas won a prominent patron for the schoolbag project: record-breaking bobsledder Francesco Friedrich from Pirna. “Starting school is an important milestone for all children. This also includes good equipment. I am therefore happy to support the Caritas fundraising campaign, which helps financially weak parents to get their children a proper satchel. Perhaps one or the other has one of their children’s satchels at home that they no longer need. That can be a great help for many,” says the exceptional athlete.
