Chaos ensued on social media with information circulating that Pix will be taxed. Well, let’s see what is true, what is a lie and what are the conditions of all this? As the Central Bank said, at the moment, physical persons will not be taxed on their transactions via Pix, whether it be to pay a bill or receive amounts. On the other hand, several banks have already been charging fees for legal entities.

In June, Caixa Econômica Federal announced that it would start charging fees on transfers made via Pix by legal entities, but withdrew the next day, suspending the implementation of the measure. On social networks, profiles began to spread false news about taxation, without mentioning that the rule is only valid for legal entities and not individuals.
Is there an exception to charge fees from individuals?
In general, these people cannot be charged. However, the financial institution may charge if the customer receives:
Pix for commercial purposes;More than 30 Pix per month;By dynamic QR Code;From a legal payer in dynamic or static QR Code.
Under what conditions is the legal entity taxed?
For legal entities, since November 2020, in accordance with Central Bank Resolution No. 30/200, and other institutions, tariffs can already be adopted for the operation. See in which situations this rule applies in sending:
When the recipient is a legal entity and uses Pix informing the account or key data;
And upon receipt, when does it apply?
When the person paying is an individual; And in case the payer is a legal entity using Pix by Qr Code or initiation service.
An important point to highlight is that there is no rate defined by the Central Bank in relation to the charge. Therefore, costs are adjusted by each financial institution. So, when making the transaction, see what amount is being charged and whether it is worth making the transfer via Pix. It’s worth comparing the rates for different types of transactions at your bank, such as DOC and TED.
