Google is rolling out an early preview of “Call for Me,” a new feature on Pixel 11 devices that lets the Gemini AI assistant make routine phone calls, wait on hold, and navigate automated menus on behalf of users in the U.S.
Voice assistants have long handled tasks like screening spam or navigating basic phone trees, but Google’s latest software expansion pushes artificial intelligence further into active, real-world execution. The feature called “Call for Me” shifts the Gemini assistant from simple information retrieval to handling practical errands that traditionally require human phone time. With this update, Gemini will be able to share personal information that you approve as part of the calls it makes, which, the company says, will allow it to take a broader set of actions.
How Pixel 11 Owners Can Delegate Phone Tasks to Gemini
Available as an early experiment, the capability is currently restricted to Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold owners in the United States who maintain a paid Gemini subscription. Users must also be enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta. Google announced a similar “Call for me” feature last year that has its AI call local businesses to ask if they have a product you’re looking for, but it didn’t have an option for users to take over those phone calls.
Rather than dialing a business manually, a user can instruct the Gemini app to place the call.
- Reserving patio seating or making restaurant reservations.
- Checking whether a local hardware store or shop has a specific part or product in stock.
- Moving a scheduled haircut or professional appointment to a different date.
- Placing items on hold at a neighborhood store or requesting special arrangements like quiet seating.
Live Transcripts and User Control During Automated Calls
When executing a task, Gemini dials directly from the user’s personal phone number using the device’s native calling system. The AI introduces itself to the person on the other end, moves through automated phone menus, waits on hold through standard wait times, and conducts the conversation.
To maintain oversight, users watch the interaction unfold through a live transcript view displayed on their screen. Google designed the architecture to keep users in control at all times, allowing them to take over the conversation or disconnect at any point during the call.
Handling Real-World Conversations and Small Business Patience
Real-world phone calls introduce unpredictable variables, from regional accents and background noise to staff members who might mistake automated bots for spam calls. Google notes that it is starting small to get the experience right because live human conversations involve significant nuance.

That is exactly what we want to continue testing,
the Google spokesperson says. With this experiment, we look forward to users testing a variety of cases, so that we can continue to improve the feature across accents and noisy environments.

And yes, Google says Gemini will “politely” hang up if the business can’t accommodate your needs. Google states that Gemini-managed calls will respect the time of the neighborhood shops and front-desk staff answering the phone, operating under the principle that calls made by Gemini on behalf of the user represent real customers conducting real transactions.
Strategic Shifts Toward Agentic AI Across the Tech Sector
This release reflects a broader strategic pivot by Alphabet toward agentic artificial intelligence, where software moves beyond answering search queries to executing real-world tasks. By embedding exclusive features into its hardware ecosystem, the company aims to drive hardware sales and justify paid subscription tiers.

Competitors are exploring similar territory. With AI agents like Meta’s Muse and Instinct now able to make calls on users’ behalf, Meta is also working on a similar automated phone call feature for its Muse AI agent, although those calls reportedly might be made by a human behind the scenes.
