Google is expanding the functionality of the thermometer app so that it can now also measure body temperature. It applies to these devices.
When you need a thermometer, there is often not one to hand – or the battery is empty. How practical that you can also measure the temperature with Google smartphones. At least with some models.
The Pixel 8 Pro, 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL smartphones can already measure the temperature of objects or liquids. Now Google is also equipping the devices’ thermometer app with a feature for determining body temperature.
If the new measurement option does not yet appear in the app, you should search for available updates in the Play Store, Google advises. After a successful update, the “body temperature” measurement option should appear next to “object temperature”.
To ensure that the temperature is determined as accurately as possible, the app guides users through the measurement with voice instructions. You first have to bring the smartphone to your forehead, then to both temples one after the other.
Technically, the thermometer app accesses the camera system’s infrared sensor to determine the temperature. Google has published details about the application and help with problems online on its support pages.
