However, the latest renders suggest a different direction. Leaks reveal a new side-mounted charger for the Pixel Watch 4. The charging contacts are now located on the left and right sides, flanking the speaker grill. This new design is reportedly 25% faster for the Pixel Watch 4 series.
The charger itself is described as a narrow pill shape with an indent housing two circular pins. It’s designed to match the curvature of the watch. This side placement also allows for easier use as a bedside clock. A new charging display is anticipated, potentially utilizing Material 3 Expressive elements. This display might show the hour and minutes in separate containers, with alarms and notification dots below. A charge status ring with a percentage would be at the top, all themed in blue.
A key question remains whether this new interface will be always-on, eliminating the need to tap the screen to see the time, especially when used as a bedside clock. The current interface turns off after a few seconds.
While pin-based charging can generate less heat than wireless charging, it means users are tied to Google’s specific cable.
