jpnn.com – JAKARTA – Chairwoman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Dita Indah Sari spoke about the soaring number of layoffs (PHK) due to the declining performance of the manufacturing sector this year.

As of August, official government data shows that 46,240 people have been laid off, the majority from the TPT (textile and textile products) industry.

“However, we are sure that in fact the number is greater. Because there are many cases of layoffs that are not reported. The PKB General Chairperson has specifically instructed that the problem of layoffs be addressed seriously,” said Dita in Jakarta, Monday (9/9).

According to Dita, PKB hopes that President Prabowo Subianto’s government will have the courage to choose priority sectors to be improved.

“What is the basis? Employment driven economy, aka labor absorption. PKB proposes focusing on four sectors, namely agriculture, maritime, manufacturing and tourism,” said Dita.

“Especially for the manufacturing and TPT industries that have many layoffs, the import factor is indeed disruptive. Actually, imports are okay, if the goods are not produced in Indonesia. Or are produced, but still lacking,” he added.

He said that imports of finished goods that are squeezing local products occur because protection for upstream and downstream industries is not yet optimal.

“Production costs are high, so the selling price is expensive. Imports are easy, just order, pay, and arrive. Of course, there is also a rent there, some enjoy the price difference between imported products that are much cheaper and local prices. Meanwhile, if the import is illegal, well, that is directly the business of law enforcement, from customs and the police. It is also illegal,” said Dita.

PKB hopes that President Prabowo Subianto’s government will have the courage to choose priority sectors to be improved.
