Jakarta Governor Election: PKS Open to Nominating Golkar Candidate
Jakarta, Indonesia – The Prosperous Unity Party (PKS) has expressed openness to nominating Ridwan Kamil, a member of the Golkar Party, for the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2024.
The reason for this consideration stems from the uncertainty surrounding Anies Baswedan, the former Governor of Jakarta, and his potential running mate. Despite speculation that his cadre, Sohibul Iman, would be nominated, Anies has not officially confirmed this.
“However, with the deadline for candidate registration having passed on August 4th, PKS has begun communication with other political parties to ensure our participation in the election,” said PKS spokesperson Muhammad Kholid.
The party is exploring two potential options. One is to form an alliance with the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM), which has already nominated Ridwan Kamil as their candidate. The other option is to build independent political communication alongside other parties.
The Golkar Party welcomed PKS’ openness to collaboration. “We cannot run alone in the Jakarta gubernatorial election,” said Ahmad Doli Kurnia, Deputy Chairman of the Golkar Party. “We hope our proposal is well received and that our support for Ridwan Kamil is acknowledged.”
The Indonesian House of Representatives confirmed that the selection of the prospective deputy governor candidate has not been finalized. Further discussions with other political parties are required to determine the final decision.
