PLACE WANTED for Levi Mercury

by time news

In Dierenopvang de Wissel in Leeuwarden, an average of 900 stray and distant animals are taken in every year, some of which also come from Harlingen and the immediate vicinity. Every week the volunteers of the Wissel look for a new place for one of these animals through this section. This week: Levi Mercury.

Levi Mercury is a tough hangover to see, but secretly has a very small heart. He came to us because his previous owner’s child unfortunately turned out to be allergic to him.

Levi still has to get used to the shelter life with us. He is a quiet independent hangover who loves attention. He is not a lap hangover, he prefers to lie near you. He is not a hangover who likes to be lifted, he prefers to stay on the ground with his four paws. He is nice with children, he also wants to cuddle.

Levi was neutered with us and after a medical check it turned out that he is an FIV positive. He carries the FIV virus, which is related to the HIV virus that causes AIDS in humans. FIV is therefore also referred to as feline AIDS. FIV is not contagious to humans, but FIV cats can transmit the virus to other cats. For example, through blood contact during a fierce fight. Levi therefore has a private room where he cannot come into contact with other shelter cats. He is a sweet good guy, but of course we couldn’t take the risk of a fight.

Levi is almost seven years young and has no symptoms yet. So we want to give him a chance. Someone who can give this hangover a good life, knowing that part of it will be sick. FIV affects the immune system, making the cat susceptible to all kinds of infections.

We are looking for a home for Levi, where he gets enough space and distraction, he is not allowed to go outside or will be able to go into a cat run. He also has to be the only cat in the household, given his illness. On the following website you can read about what FIV exactly means: https://www.licg.nl/katten/kattenaids-fiv/
