Plane crashes during Christmas in Kazakhstan

A company plane Azerbaijan Airlineswith 67 people on board, crashed this Wednesday in western Kazakhstan, authorities reported.

The plane, an Embraer 190, vflowed between Baku, the Azerbaijani capital, and Groznythe capital of the Russian Caucasian republic of Chechnya, according to the company.

The plane crashed near the city of Aktau, on the shores of the Caspian Seain western Kazakhstan, indicated the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations.

In videos published by Russian media, the plane is seen hitting the ground, causing a gigantic fire.

In addition, other images show the plane on the ground, partially burned, with the front part completely destroyed.

After the impact, “the plane caught fire”indicated the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which sent 150 rescuers to the scene.

“We cannot disclose the results of the investigation at the moment. All possible scenarios are being examinedand the necessary expertise is ongoing,” he highlighted, adding that a team of Azerbaijani investigators “is working on site.”

For its part, the Ministry of the Interior announced the opening of an investigation for “violation of safety regulations and exploitation of air transport”.

According to Azerbaijan Airlines, 62 passengers and five crew members were on board the plane, which “made an emergency landing” about three kilometers from Aktau.

Among the people on board were 37 citizens of Azerbaijansix Kazakhs, three Kyrgyz and 16 Russians, detailed the Kazakh Ministry of Transport.

32 people survived accident in Kazakhstan

Azerbaijan Airlines initially claimed that the plane had collided with a flock of birds, but later suppressed this information, in addition to detailing the number of survivors.

“According to the information available, 32 people survived” to the accident, announced the general prosecutor’s office of Azerbaijan.

The regional department of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan reported in a statement about “the explosion of a balloon” on board the aircraft, without giving further details.

At the moment, the causes of the accident are unknown.
