A United plane lost one of its main landing gear tires while taking off from Los Angeles International Airport, with no injuries reported.

According to official information, the plane was carrying 179 passengers and seven crew members and continued its flight to Denver and landed without incident.

“The tire has been recovered in Los Angeles and we are investigating what caused this event,” the statement said.

Also on March 7, a United Boeing B777-200 lost a tire in mid-air after taking off from San Francisco. It landed on a car in the airport’s employee parking lot. No one was injured.

The tire was one of 12 on the Boeing 777-200’s two main landing gear struts, United said, and is designed to allow it to land safely if a tire were to lose.

The aircraft took off from Los Angeles at around 7:16 a.m. local time and landed at Denver International Airport at 10:10 a.m., a company spokesman said.

And last March, a Boeing 777 from the same company lost a tire while taking off from San Francisco International Airport, California. The tire fell into the airport parking lot, damaging several cars. The company later reported that the flight, bound for the Japanese city of Osaka and with 249 people on board, landed safely at Los Angeles airport.

Boeing has been in the news in recent weeks for the situation of Barry Wilmore and Sunita William, two NASA astronauts who have been on the International Space Station (ISS) since June 13. As we reported in El Confidencial, they are not trapped, as they could return to Earth aboard the Russian Soyuz or the SpaceX Crew Dragon if there were an emergency. However, various problems with the Boeing Starliner make it currently impossible for them to return aboard the ship that took them there.
