Samsung is planning a surprise: a fourth model in the Galaxy S25 series could soon come onto the market. This makes the competition with Apple even more exciting.
Samsung has registered a previously unknown smartphone model in the international IMEI database. As the US tech portal “Smartprix” reports, the model number SM-S937 indicates a fourth model in the upcoming Galaxy S25 series.
The new model will come onto the market as the Galaxy S25 Slim and will stand out from its sister models with a particularly thin housing. Registration in the database is considered in the industry to be a reliable indication of the existence of a new device.
The slim model can also be classified in comparison to the other S25 versions based on the model number, it goes on to say. While the base model has the number SM-S931, the Plus model is registered as SM-S936 and the Ultra as SM-S938. The slim model with the number SM-S937 is therefore expected to be positioned between the Plus and Ultra versions.
The technical features of the new model are particularly interesting. The well-known industry insider “Ice Universe” reports on X that the Galaxy S25 Slim will be equipped with an “ultra camera“. As the tech portal “SamMobile” explains, this could mean the 200-megapixel main camera of the Ultra model.
According to “Smartprix”, the market launch of the new model is planned for the second quarter of 2025. Samsung may be following a trend that Apple could set with a thinner iPhone 17. Samsung had already taken a similar step in 2014 when the company launched the Galaxy Alpha as a particularly thin variant of the Galaxy S5.
Interview: Time.news Editor Meets Mobile Expert
Time.news Editor (TNE): Good morning and welcome to our special segment! Today, we’re diving deep into the evolving smartphone market with an expert in mobile technology, Dr. Emma Reddington. Thanks for joining us, Dr. Reddington.
Dr. Emma Reddington (ER): My pleasure! It’s exciting to talk about what’s happening in the mobile industry right now.
TNE: Let’s jump right in. Samsung just teased a surprising move by planning a fourth model in their Galaxy S25 series. What does this tell us about their strategy moving forward?
ER: Well, Samsung is making a bold statement. By introducing a fourth model, they’re likely looking to cater to a broader audience with varied needs and preferences. This adjustment in their strategy indicates that they recognize the competitive landscape, particularly against strong rival Apple, which continues to dominate the premium smartphone sector.
TNE: That’s interesting! You mentioned the competitive landscape. How do you think this new model will impact Apple and the overall smartphone market?
ER: Samsung’s move could stir the pot quite a bit. With the introduction of additional models, they can offer consumers more choices at different price points, potentially enticing those who may have previously considered an iPhone. Apple has always focused on a more streamlined product lineup, so any shift in Samsung’s offerings could force them to reconsider their own strategies.
TNE: Speaking of strategies, do you think this indicates that Samsung is feeling pressure from Apple’s recent innovations?
ER: Absolutely. Apple’s technology advancements and brand loyalty have created a formidable competitive pressure. By offering multiple models, Samsung is attempting to reclaim ground by appealing to users who may prioritize features or affordability – areas where they can shine against Apple’s typically higher price points.
TNE: The IMEI database registration hints at the existence of this new model. What do we know so far about this mysterious SM-S937 model?
ER: Although details are scarce, the SM-S937 model is speculated to be positioned between the standard and premium offerings. This could mean interesting features that provide value while still being cost-effective. Such a tactic could attract new customers who desire the latest tech without the premium price tag that oftentimes comes with flagship devices.
TNE: Very insightful! With all these new developments, what should consumers keep an eye on leading up to the Galaxy S25’s release?
ER: Consumers should watch for the specific features that this new model will offer compared to the existing versions in the S24 lineup. Additionally, it will be fascinating to see Samsung’s marketing angle—whether they focus on innovative technology, sustainability, or enhanced user experience. All of these factors could influence consumer preferences and market dynamics significantly.
TNE: Great insights, Dr. Reddington! Before we wrap up, any parting thoughts on the future of smartphones, especially in light of Samsung’s recent announcements?
ER: The smartphone landscape is evolving rapidly. With brands like Samsung diversifying their offerings, competition will drive innovation across the board. Consumers will continue to benefit from this rivalry, leading to better products that meet their needs more effectively. I’m excited to see how this plays out!
