Interview Between Time.news Editor and Santiago Trujillo, Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Sports
Time.news Editor: Thank you for joining us today, Santiago. The ”Museum Night Cultural Invitation 2024″ sounds like an exciting initiative. Can you tell us more about the Bogotá district strategy 24/7 and how it fits into this event?
Santiago Trujillo: Thank you for having me! The Bogotá district strategy 24/7 is all about fostering a vibrant cultural and creative scene in our city, particularly during the night. We aim to create a safe and dynamic environment where people can engage with culture through art, music, and various activities. The “Museum Night” is a critical component of this strategy, allowing us to showcase the cultural richness of Bogotá and promote accessibility for all.
Time.news Editor: That sounds fantastic! So, what can attendees expect during the “Museum Night” event this November 8?
Santiago Trujillo: Attendees can look forward to an incredible array of experiences. We have over 80 art exhibitions scheduled across nearly 50 museums and cultural spaces in twelve different areas of the city. Each venue will feature unique artistic formats presented by selected proposals, encouraging attendees to explore art in unconventional hours and settings, which is a key aspect of the 24/7 initiative.
Time.news Editor: I understand that there was a call for proposals for this event. How did that process unfold?
Santiago Trujillo: Yes, we had an open call for cultural initiatives, and we received eleven submissions. After careful consideration, we selected nine proposals to receive economic incentives of $17,200,000 each. This support is intended to help these projects flourish and contribute to our vision of a city that embraces the night as a time for creativity, safety, and productive engagement.
Time.news Editor: That’s a significant investment in the arts! How do you envision the impact of these projects on the community?
Santiago Trujillo: We believe that these projects will enhance cultural vibrancy and encourage community participation. By ensuring that cultural, recreational, and sporting activities are accessible during non-traditional hours, we are aiming to redefine how Bogotá experiences the night. We want residents and visitors alike to feel they can safely enjoy and explore our city’s cultural offerings at any hour.
Time.news Editor: It’s impressive to create such an inclusive environment. What are the long-term goals of the Bogotá 24/7 initiative?
Santiago Trujillo: Our long-term goals include establishing Bogotá as a leading cultural metropolis in Latin America, promoting artistic expression and creativity, and ensuring that cultural engagement is an integral part of daily life. We want to build a city where nightlife is not just about entertainment but also about cultural exploration and community connection.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like an ambitious plan. Lastly, how can people participate in the “Museum Night” and be part of this cultural movement?
Santiago Trujillo: Participation is simple! We invite everyone to come out on November 8, explore the various museums and exhibitions, and immerse themselves in the rich cultural offerings of our city. Details about locations and special events will be available on our website and through local media. Engaging with arts and culture at night is a wonderful way to appreciate the diversity of Bogotá.
Time.news Editor: Thank you, Santiago. This initiative truly highlights the importance of cultural inclusivity and safety in our cities. We look forward to seeing how “Museum Night” evolves.
Santiago Trujillo: Thank you! We’re excited about the possibilities and hope to see many people embracing the night with us.
