The United States, Saudi Arabia, the European Union and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to the other G20 partners, agreed to explore a corridor project to increase flows between Europe and India. Amos Hochstein, Joe Biden’s coordinator for infrastructure and energy security, referred to a schedule to launch the project next year.

In the next two months, working groups will meet, which will draw up a plan and set a schedule. The first phase will involve identifying areas that need investment, as well as the physical infrastructure needed to connect the countries.

The corridor aims to link the countries of the Middle East by rail to subsequently connect with India by sea and rail, thus contributing to energy and commercial exchanges from the Gulf to Europe, cutting transit times, costs and fuel use. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Union President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as other world leaders, participated in the announcement.
