In an interview for VANGUARDIA, Perla Nájera, Leo’s mother, explained that the caravan has been taking place for four years to raise awareness about mitochondrial diseases, which affect one in every five thousand infants.

He expressed that after requesting the lighting of several buildings as occurs in other cities in the world, it was in 2019 that the ITS agreed to illuminate its green and white façade as a form of support and awareness, being the only building in Saltillo.

“The movement is to make people aware that rare diseases exist. “Leo has palliative treatment since the mutation has no cure, so he has to try to survive day by day,” Nájera explained.

In that sense, the students did not prevent the caravan from reaching the Tec facilities and even joined the cheers and the photo on the façade of the building.

Later, the students resumed their activities with a dog catwalk in which the students themselves or their family members showed their pets on a catwalk.

To close the day, teacher Nelly from the ITS Folkloric Ballet congratulated the students for maintaining the sit-in even this Saturday, pointing out that particularly her dance group has many shortcomings.
