The family and friends of Fernando Villavicencio, the presidential candidate and journalist murdered in August 2023, have called for a sit-in to demand a speedy investigation into his murder.
The demonstration will take place in front of the Attorney General’s Office in Quito on June 20, 2024, at 3:30 p.m.
Fernando Villavicencio was brutally murdered on August 9, 2023, in a crime that shocked the country. Despite 10 months having passed since the assassination, the trial has not yet been held and, according to his relatives, no significant progress has been made in identifying the mastermind behind the murder.
Villavicencio’s relatives have expressed their frustration and despair at the lack of progress in the case. “It is unacceptable that, after so much time, we still have no clarity on who ordered Fernando’s murder. We need answers and concrete actions from the justice system,” said one of the relatives.
