In the final match, Pļaviņš/Fokerots, who were seeded with number 25, beat the vice-champions of the Olympic Games, Nils Oehler/Klemens Wikler (3rd) with a score of 2-1 (17:21, 22:20, 15:5).
It is significant that Pļaviņš and Fokerots were initially on the reserve list of the master’s competition and could start in the tournament only because other duos refused. The won European championship title is the biggest joint success of the duo.
It is planned that Pļaviņš and Fokerot will return to Latvia on Monday at 1:10 p.m. with a flight from Amsterdam.
Three-time participant of the Olympic Games and bronze laureate of the London Games in a pair with Jānis Šmēdiņas Pļaviņas, the highest place in the European championships in a pair with Šmēdiņas was the bronze medals won in Berlin in 2010. The 19-year-old Fokerot was a debutant at this level of competition.

In the duel between the losing teams in the semi-finals, the Dutch won the game for bronze with a score of 2-1 (21:17, 17:21, 16:14).
Latvians won all three games in the main tournament and started the elimination tournament from the round of 16, winning the next two games in the “play-off” in two sets.
In the previous championship, Latvia was not represented in the men’s tournament.
It has already been reported that Tina Graudiņa and Anastasija Samoilova lost in the quarter-finals on Friday and ended the championships in joint fifth place.
