There are often job discussions on the Internet in Taiwan that “studying in the Department of History can do the job”. Although every department nowadays cannot guarantee that students will have a job after graduation, there is a history department in a university in the United States. At the end of March this year, Paul Milliman, associate professor of medieval history at the School of History at the University of Arizona, and Alison Futrell, associate professor of Roman history and dean of the department, jointly offered a special course called “Online Illuminated Histories Experience”, allowing students to Earn credits by playing Age of Empires 4 while learning history.

Developed in collaboration with World’s Edge game studios and Relic Entertainment game designers, the course takes students through a special single-player campaign level from Empire of Age 4, and the textbook also allows players to participate in additional game expansions, to test and deepen their knowledge of history.
“It’s a very innovative way of learning,” said department chair Alison Futrell. “We didn’t know there were colleges and universities in the world that had this kind of partnership with video game designers. We hope that students at the University of Arizona campus have this kind of partnership. Players of Age of Empires and Age of Empires will be excited about this course and will be interested in other courses offered by the History Department.”
