Sony has announced the free PlayStation Plus Essential games for October, which will be available to subscribers starting from Tuesday, Oct. 3. The lineup includes three games: “The Callisto Protocol,” “Farming Simulator 22,” and “Weird West.”
“The Callisto Protocol” is the spiritual successor to the Dead Space games, created by Striking Distance Studios. It takes players on a sci-fi survival horror adventure, as they try to escape a high-tech space prison on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. Although the game received mixed reviews upon its release in December 2022, it has since received updates that have added new modes and difficulty options.
“Farming Simulator 22” from Giants Software is a popular simulator game that allows players to experience the world of agriculture, animal husbandry, and forestry. It features real-world farming equipment from renowned manufacturers such as John Deere, Case IH, Fendt, and more. The game has recently added seasonal cycles and production chains, enhancing the immersive farming experience.
“Weird West” is the debut title from WolfEye Studios, founded by Raphaël Colantonio, who previously worked on games like “Dishonored” and “Prey” at Arkane Studios. It offers a unique blend of gothic horror and RPG elements in a gunslinging Western setting. The game was released in 2022 and has been praised for its innovative approach to the genre.
These three games will be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers to download until Nov. 6. It’s worth noting that September’s PlayStation Plus Essential games, including “Saints Row,” “Black Desert: Traveler Edition,” and “Generation Zero,” are still available for download until Oct. 2.
PlayStation Plus Essential is the base tier of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s subscription service, offering online multiplayer access, monthly free games for both PS4 and PS5, cloud storage, and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases. The subscription costs $79.99 annually, $24.99 for a three-month subscription, or $9.99 monthly. Sony recently raised the price of all 12-month subscription plans, including the Essential tier, which saw a $20 increase from $59.99 to $79.99 annually.
