Sony State of Play: What Games to Expect This Thursday
A lengthy, 60-plus minute Sony State of Play is scheduled for this Thursday, February 12, promising fresh looks at upcoming titles for the PS5, encompassing both third-party and indie games alongside updates from PlayStation Studios. Anticipation is building as players seek insight into what new reveals and gameplay footage will be showcased.
PlayStation Exclusives in Focus
Several highly anticipated PlayStation exclusives are potential candidates for a spotlight during the stream. While expectations were high for a new look at Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine, the developer recently announced via its official X account that further updates won’t arrive until “Spring 2026.” This delay comes after a first look at gameplay during the September 2025 State of Play, leaving fans to wonder if a release date for Logan’s latest adventure might still be revealed. A glimpse of Daredevil, previously teased to appear in the game, remains a possibility.
Bungie’s Marathon, a new extraction shooter, is set to be PlayStation Studio’s first major release of the year, launching on March 5. Despite facing challenges such as a plagiarism scandal and negative feedback during its alpha phase, this State of Play represents a crucial opportunity for Bungie to generate excitement.
Later this spring, Housemarque’s Saros, a follow-up to the critically acclaimed Returnal, is slated for release on April 30. Given its regular appearances in recent State of Play presentations, another update seems highly probable.
The upcoming superhero fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, developed by Arc System Works, is also expected to feature prominently. A recent leak revealed details about the game’s roster, information that could be officially confirmed on Thursday.
Phantom Blade Zero, a wuxia action RPG from S-Game, has generated significant buzz. With a launch date of September 9, a further demonstration of its impressive gameplay is anticipated.
Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new 3-player co-op live-service action game within the Horizon universe, is also likely to be showcased, particularly as playtesting begins later this month.
Unveiled at The Game Awards, 4:Loop, a PS5 and PC exclusive developed in collaboration with Bad Robot Games and Left 4 Dead creator Mike Booth, blends roguelike elements with co-op shooting. Details regarding the start of playtesting may be revealed during the stream.
While a deeper dive into Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet isn’t guaranteed, many hope for an update on the sci-fi action-adventure, which was first revealed at the 2024 Game Awards and has remained largely under wraps since.
What Else Could PlayStation Studios Show?
Beyond these confirmed titles, speculation surrounds potential reveals from other PlayStation Studios. Could we see the next project from Sony Santa Monica, the developers of God of War? Or perhaps a glimpse into Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei: Legends? The possibility of a first look at Gran Turismo 8 or an update on Haven Studios’ Fairgames also remains. Fans are also eager for news from Media Molecule and Team Asobi, hoping for follow-ups to Dreams and Astro Bot, respectively.
Multiplatform Titles and Surprises
The stream isn’t solely focused on PlayStation exclusives. While a reveal of GTA 6 is considered highly unlikely, several other multiplatform titles could make an appearance. Resident Evil Requiem, launching on February 27, is a strong contender for a final gameplay showcase.
Interestingly, Konami has scheduled a Silent Hill stream just two hours after the State of Play, potentially signaling a more in-depth look at a new installment following a brief reveal during the PlayStation presentation. This could include Bloober Team’s remake of the original Silent Hill or, more likely, a proper reveal of the Annapurna-published Silent Hill: Townfall.
Capcom may also present updates on Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Square Enix’s Naoki Hamaguchi has teased significant updates for the Final Fantasy 7 remake project this year, raising the possibility of a reveal for the third part of the trilogy or a bridging chapter for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Closer to release, IO Interactive’s 007 First Light and Warner Bros. Games’ Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (both launching in May) could receive further attention. Pearl Abyss’ ambitious open-world action-adventure, Crimson Desert, arriving in March, is also a likely candidate for a new trailer.
Looking further ahead, updates on Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Control: Resonant, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer are all possibilities.
Indie Games to Watch
Beyond the AAA titles, several indie games are poised to make an impact on PlayStation. Beyond the announcement of a PS5 version of Hades 2, fans are hoping for more information on Beethoven & Dinosaur’s Mixtape, Mouse P.I. For Hire, and inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories.
