PlayStation will keep its exclusives for a year on console before they make the jump to computer

PlayStation wants to become big in the PC ecosystem, but without neglecting the place where the company has grown for the last three decades: consoles. Herman Hulst, responsible for PlayStation Studioshas shared, in statements to Julien Chiènze’s YouTube channel, that the company has no plans to remove its exclusive titles, such as the next God of War, from the desktop to land on computers before a year is up since its launch.

“I think in the future we will see at least a year between the release of one of our games on the PlayStation console and on PC,” the executive pointed out exactly. Games as a service, those in which the player must make some kind of small payment and are multiplayer, would be the only exception. It is expected that, in the future, these ‘Fortnite’-type titles may arrive at the same time on the computer and the console.

Precisely, PS’s intention to become strong within this segment -so lucrative and successful in recent years- was what motivated Sony, its parent company, to buy the Bungie studio at the beginning of 2022. Sony currently has 12 video games of this type in development.

However, the executive emphasizes that most of his games will continue to be single player, with a careful narrative: “They are also our most profitable titles.”

As Hulst has pointed out to other media, including ‘Axios’, the company wants continue releasing video games for PlayStation 4 in the medium term. More considering that accessing a PS5 console almost two years after its launch is still practically an impossible mission. “We don’t want to forget the millions of active players on PS4, and we want to make sure there are great games for them,” Hulst said.
