The sisters need help
The Aid to the Church in Need supports the nuns so that they can continue to stand by those who have lost everything. Please donate for this.
The sister communities have opened their convents
Millions of people are fleeing in Ukraine – the vast majority are women and children. Some have traveled abroad, but many are seeking safety in western Ukraine. They hope to be able to return home soon.
In the diocese of Lemberg (Lviv), the sister communities have opened their monasteries to provide protection and help to refugees. 144 sisters from 23 different religious communities are at the service of those who have lost everything.
Always at the side of those in need
For example, the Servants of the Immaculate Mary took in 30 refugees from Mariupol, Kharkiv, Kiev and other places in their orphanage. The nuns provide them with food, clothing and hygiene products. The children, who have often experienced terrible things, are particularly important to the sisters.
The refugees also find spiritual support here. “In the evenings we pray the rosary together in our monastery chapel. When the alarm sirens wail, we seek shelter from the threat of airstrikes in the basement,” says one of the sisters.
