Hyeri, the lead actress of the movie ‘Victory’, which rose to number one at the box office just one month after its release and was embroiled in allegations of private money manipulation, shed tears and emphasized, “I really hope you understand my sincerity.”
At the ‘Victory’ GV (audience chat) held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 12th, Hye-ri said, “It’s a movie that I’m so proud of, even though there were many twists and turns from the beginning.”
Hye-ri explained, “(The audience) told me a lot after watching ‘Victory.’ I received so much support,” and “I wanted to repay their support by meeting more viewers. That’s why I went to theaters and also promoted ‘Victory’ in places other than theaters.” Hye-ri has been showing special affection for the work by visiting theaters as a guerrilla, doing stage greetings, and posting promotional articles on social media even when it’s not an official schedule.
He said, “‘Victory’ is a movie that gave me many different emotions,” and “It’s a movie that made me cry with many different emotions, whether it’s happiness, sadness, disappointment, or joy.”
‘Victory’ is a movie that tells the story of Pil-sun (Hyeri) and Mina (Park Se-wan), for whom dancing is everything in life, cheering everyone on and being cheered on. After its release on the 14th of last month, it started off with low scores, and Hyeri and the other actors expressed their disappointment. However, it succeeded in making a comeback in about a month. According to the integrated computer network of movie tickets from the Korean Film Council, ‘Victory’ rose to the top of the box office on the 10th and maintained the top spot on the 11th. It attracted 13,189 viewers on the 10th and 13,602 viewers on the 11th. The cumulative number of viewers is 465,962.
Afterwards, suspicions of private manipulation arose in some online communities. Netizens took issue with the sudden increase in ticket sales and the sell-out of weekday theaters.
Mindmark, which is distributing ‘Victory’, stated on the 11th through their official social media, “The suspicion is groundless.” They continued, “Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, screenings through some companies and organizations are planned and underway,” and explained, “In particular, the number of viewers naturally increased as the screening schedules overlapped on weekdays this week right before the holiday.”
He also said, “It has been confirmed that the weekday sold-out screening rooms that have become a topic of controversy in the community were screenings that were rented out by companies and organizations.”
In addition, he added, “Usually, in the case of theater screenings, it is impossible for the general public to make reservations, so it is common for the reservation site schedule not to be open,” and “It is believed that the misunderstanding arose when the schedules for some screenings were made public.”
