jpnn.comJAKARTA – Residents who were victims of the Plumpang Pertamina Depot fire, North Jakarta, have just won a civil lawsuit filed against PT Pertamina Patra Niaga regarding the corporation’s negligence in the fatal fire a year ago.

Abdus Syakur, Head of RW 09 Rawa Badak Selatan, admitted that there were hopes of many of his residents that were embedded in the spirit of filing a lawsuit a year ago.

Now, after going through various trials, residents feel that what they went through together has paid off.

“This is not about winning or losing, but how we fight to demand our rights that have been taken away by corporations due to their negligence,” said Abdus in a statement received by JPNN.com, Thursday (12/9).

Abdus said more than 40 victims of the Plumpang Pertamina Depot fire in October last year filed a lawsuit against Pertamina at the South Jakarta District Court.

In their lawsuit, residents asked Pertamina to take full responsibility for the material losses and deaths of the victims, not just provide compensation.

“For example, regarding those who died, they said that compensation would only be IDR 50 million, but many residents refused,” he continued.

“So, actually this lawsuit is a form of injustice, a form of public dissatisfaction regarding Pertamina’s handling of the fire victims,” continued Abdus.
