PM Modi congratulates Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe

Following the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the President and Prime Minister resigned in response to public protests.

Subsequently, Ranil Wickramasinghe, who was the interim president, won the election for the new president and took office as the president recently. However, the people’s struggle against him is also getting stronger.

In this context, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the new President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe.

In this regard, in the letter written by Prime Minister Modi, I congratulate you on your election as the 8th President of Sri Lanka. You are taking up this position at a time of crisis for Sri Lanka. I believe that during your tenure, the economic stability will improve and the wishes of all the citizens of Sri Lanka will be fulfilled.

He also said that India will continue to support Sri Lanka’s quest for stability and economic recovery through established democratic mechanisms, institutions and constitutional framework.
